WordPress contact form not sending email: what to verify first
A success message on a contact form is not proof that the email arrived. Test submission, mail transport and recipient delivery as separate parts of the system.
Verify the form itself
Submit a controlled test with a distinctive reference phrase. Check required fields, the configured notification destination and any form-plugin submission logs.
Check recipient handling
Search the destination mailbox, spam, quarantine and filtering rules. Verify that the recipient address and domain are correct.
Inspect the sending method
Identify whether the site uses the server mail function, SMTP or a transactional email provider. Review the provider's actual delivery or rejection logs when available.
Check authentication carefully
Review SPF, DKIM and DMARC for the domain and sending service. A sender-name change alone cannot repair missing or invalid domain authentication.
Test accessibility and mobile behavior
Verify visible validation errors, working submission buttons and a realistic mobile test. Never report a message as delivered when the system has only accepted it for processing.
Retest and preserve evidence
After a single scoped change, repeat the same test. Keep original settings, timestamps and outcome so you can undo the change if it causes a regression.
